May 24 theme (with Bricque Garber and Ann Meleney): Explore the expressive world of gel-plate print making combined with the art of collage.  In this hands on class, you’ll create one of a kind prints using acrylic paints and a variety of textures.  We’ll experiment with layering and color to build rich surfaces. You’ll then transform your prints into finished collage pieces-cutting, tearing and recombining elements to create your personal composition on canvas.  This workshop is perfect for beginners and experienced artists alike.  No experience is necessary. Please come ready to play, explore and discover. All materials are provided.  Please wear “paint” clothes or bring an apron, along with lunch.

April 19 theme: “A flower blossoms for its own joy.” - Oscar Wilde. April sunshine ushers the season of flowers. Every year in May, the highly anticipated gallery show, ‘The Art of the Flowers’ draws crowds to enjoy the work of local artists embracing their relationships to Island blooms. This April workshop gives you the opportunity to submit work to the show! Come create mixed media flower pieces on canvases and let’s join the celebration of shape, color and joy!

Collage is a visual representation made from an assembly of different forms, materials and sources to create a new whole. A Collage or Mixed Media piece may include paint, news paper clippings or pictures, ribbons, threads or yarns, bits of colored paper or hand made papers, portions of other artwork, photographs and such...glued, stitched or otherwise affixed to a canvas or other solid support surfaces.

It’s fun and foolproof. Many previous attendees have amazed themselves with the results of their creations. The process is totally forgiving allowing for renovation and revision.  Your creative juices will flow in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere.
