Level: Introductory / No Experience Necessary

Unlock your creativity and learn the fundamentals of drawing in this fun, hands-on beginner’s course. Whether you're picking up a pencil for the first time or revisiting a forgotten hobby, this 3-hour workshop will guide you through the essential techniques of observation, shading, line work, and composition. You'll explore a range of subjects—from simple shapes to still life—while learning how to see like an artist.

With step-by-step instruction and individual support, you'll have the opportunity to learn new skills, gain greater confidence, and create a sketch or two to begin your drawing journey.

 

MATERIALS: Please bring some basic materials: a pencil, eraser, and a sketchbook.

 

 

Landscape Sketching with M Colleen Harrigan

Location: outside at Featherstone (Painting Studio if rain)
Fee: $60 per 3 hour workshop

This Landscape Sketching for All Levels class accommodates both beginners and more advanced participants. The goal is to guide students through basic techniques, provide hands-on practice, and help them develop their skills. The class will incorporate instruction, demonstration, and time for students to practice. Drawing from observation offers numerous benefits, including improved technical skills, enhanced attention to detail, critical thinking, and visual memory. It also fosters a deeper understanding of proportions, shading, and form and the ability to articulate textures and light/shadow. In this 3-hour Landscape Sketching class, students will have the opportunity for an interactive experience with drawing techniques, guided practice, and 1 hour of independent drawing. This outline below emphasizes an integrative teaching method with a balance of support and exploration.
