Hand Building with Sabrina Kuchta

Dates: July 30 // August 6, 13, 20, 27 // September 3, 10, 17, 24 (please see below for class project dates)
Time: 3:00-5:00PM
Location: The Pottery Studio
Fee: $40 per class
*Please Note: Ceramics is a multi-stage process. What you make in class will need to first dry, then be fired twice. This process can take around two weeks to produce a finished piece.
In this adults only class we will discuss and experiment with hand building techniques. No prior experience in ceramics is necessary; this class can be taken as a beginner class or as a supplementary to your already existing knowledge. Each class can be taken on its own or taken as a series.
Slab Building I 7/30
-we will explore various techniques to make slabs
-We will create mugs and plates with our slabs
Slab Building II 8/6
*Slab Building I is not require but previous experience with slab work is encouraged
-We will build on our existing knowledge of slabs to build more complicated structures,
-Boxes
Coil Pots 8/13
-We will explore the coil building technique as it can be applied to both functional ware and sculpture
Glazing! 8/20
- Have questions about glazing? Bring your bisque ware and your questions, and we will go over a variety of techniques and need to know info for that last, but ever important, step in finishing your pieces! **** NOTE: Bisque ware is not required but encouraged!
Coil Bowls 8/27
-Using supporting molds we will learn how to easily make beautiful dishes and bowls with intricate coil detailing on the outside and a smooth functional interior.
Tripod Mugs 9/3
-With one simple technique we will manipulate slabs to create delightfully three footed mugs.
Fairy Houses/Luminaries 9/10
- Create your own garden dwelling with simple slab and coil techniques.
Garden Frogs 9/17
- Using hollow forms, create fun frogs to fill any garden or shelf with character and whimsy.
